Last year, Romanians filed almost 130,000 substantiated complaints about the delivery of postal correspondence and parcels, an increase compared to the previous year, and in more than two-thirds of these cases compensation was granted, according to the Postal Services Report for Thursday 2022 published by the Telecom Arbiter (ANCOM ). With more than 1,000 employees in the red, Pošta continued to lose ground in both traffic and revenue to private operators.

15 complaints for every 10,000 mailings in 2022

Last year, Romanians filed more than 885,000 complaints against postal service providers, a 3% increase over the previous year.

According to the department, last year there were 15 complaints for every 10,000 postal items.

The number of substantiated complaints in 2022 increased by 12% (almost 130,000), two-thirds of which were compensated, amounting to 16.9 million lei (-0.1% compared to the previous year).

According to ANCOM, the average cost of compensation decreased by 8% to 202 lei.

81% of total postal revenue comes from parcel delivery

Total revenues from postal services exceeded 4.6 billion lei (+11%), 81% accounted for parcel traffic.

Transportation of parcels and small packages increased in 2022 by 6% to 232 million shipments, i.e. 12 parcels/inhabitant.

The lower traffic growth compared to previous years was compensated by the acceleration of the growth of revenues from parcels (+13%), up to 3.8 billion lei.

  • The average income per parcel was more than 16 lei (13 lei in the case of domestic parcels).
  • The number of suppliers that deliver through automatic systems (easybox, parcel machine, etc.) reached 10, so 1 out of 7 domestic parcels was delivered through them
  • Almost 9 out of 10 domestic parcels were delivered within 1 day of entering the postal network, an average of 1.2 days
  • International parcels brought an income of 1 billion lei

Depending on the number of parcels, the first 3 suppliers are: Delivery Solutions – Sameday (28%), Fan Courier (26%) and Cargus (13%).

Correspondence and printed products: Revenues increased by 7% (reaching almost 0.8 billion lei), although traffic decreased by 9% (303 million links)

  • average income per referral increased to 2.6 lei (+17%)
  • On average, domestic mail and printed items were delivered in 2.7 days
  • Depending on the number of shipments, the most important suppliers are CN Posta Română (52%) and Pink Post (41%).

The number of postal employees decreased by 4%. Minus more than 1,000 employees at the post office

The total number of employees in the postal sector fell by 4% last year due to the reduction of more than 1,000 employees at the state-owned company Poșta Română, the Communications Regulatory Authority points out.

On average, a postal employee received an annual postal income of 127,000 lei, which is 12% more than in 2021.

Liberal Valentyn Štefan has been re-confirmed at the head of the Post for another 4 years

This month, the Post of Romania announced the results of the recruitment procedure for the positions of General Director and Economic and Financial Director in accordance with the provisions of GEO 109/2011 on the corporate governance of state-owned enterprises.

On the basis of the procedure, the Board of Directors appointed the liberal Florin – Valentyn Stefan as the general director for the next 4 years, who held the position of temporary general director from the summer of 2021.

Alexandru Butiseaka was appointed economic and financial director by the same procedure.
