Ukraine’s navy reported Thursday damage to a Russian warship near Sevastopol, a port on the occupied Crimean peninsula, as attacks continue on all fronts in Ukraine, Agerpres reported, citing German news agency DPA.
The spokesman of the Navy of Ukraine, Captain Dmytro Pletenchuk, announced the damage to the Pavlo Derzhavin corvette in an interview with Radio Liberty, without giving details of the extent of the damage.
In the evening, several Telegram channels, including the military administration of the port of Odessa, reported that a warship had encountered an underwater mine in the waters near Sevastopol. This information could not be independently verified.
Pavlo Derzhavin is one of four corvettes used by the Russian Black Sea Fleet as heavy patrol ships. These warships can also be used to launch cruise missiles, which Russia has regularly bombarded Ukraine with since the war began nearly 20 months ago.
In September, another one of these ships, “Serhiy Kotov”, was attacked by Ukraine and was seriously damaged, Kyiv reports.
Moscow does not comment on the alleged damage to the Pavlo Derzhavin corvette.
Kyiv authorities said that on the night from Wednesday to Thursday, Russia carried out a new large-scale drone attack on Ukrainian cities. Ukrainian anti-aircraft fighters shot down 28 drones out of 33 launched by Russian troops.
Only in the Odesa region, 10 drone attacks were recorded, most of which were repelled. The woman was hospitalized with burns, according to local authorities. Affected residential buildings and a warehouse in the port. The Ukrainian region on the Black Sea coast and the Ukrainian region on the Danube, important for grain exports, are regularly attacked by Russia.
