The situation at French service stations is still not improving. Indeed, the price of fuel is still very high, although it has decreased slightly in recent weeks. However, this is not enough to calm the discontent of motorists and allow them to calmly go on the road. Because prices remain very high and don’t seem to want to come down, even though it’s happening everywhere in Europe. The fault undoubtedly lies with taxation in France, with taxes amounting to no less than 60% of the price per liter.
€1.99 cap: “I trust @TotalEnergies keep up this exemplary work. Refinery tax? We will see the parliamentary debates, but in general I don’t really like taxes” @BrunoLeMaire https://t.co/QKa5Efuc2W pic.twitter.com/Ba1VlMTmk3

Threat from TotalEnergies
Fortunately, some distributors decided to do something for their customers. This is, for example, the case of TotalEnergies, which until the end of the year limits the price of all its fuel at the level of 1.99 euros per liter. And the authorities want to do everything so that it continues. At the same time, he also plans to raise taxes on oil companies in the form of “ temporary joint contribution“. To which, of course, TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Poignant opposes. The latter threatened limit of final price.
The government’s response
The government wished to respond to the leader through Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire. The latter explains that ” I had the opportunity to talk with him. I trust Total to support this operation, which is a model for me. We fight inflation when we all together make the right decisions to reduce prices: the state, business, distributors“. Currently, TotalEnergies continues to cap its prices across France.
