Since the successful launch of the SUV (and now the bestseller) DS 7 Crossback, the first new DS model (rather than Citroën-based as it was before), model releases in the premium division of the Stellantis group increased. Thus, the second SUV appeared in 2018THE DS 3 Crossback, the younger brother of the DS 7 Crossback. Then a sedan in 2020 DS 9and, finally, the compact in 2021 DS 4. The DS line is now harmonized around these four models, recently two SUVs restyling (they took the opportunity to drop their Crossback name). So DS finally became a brand separately, before positioning premium “French sophistication” that seeks to shake up the German manufacturers in this category (Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi are the leaders).
700 kilometers of autonomy
From now on, DS has the keys to continue its development, and above all intensify its breakthrough on two fronts: electric and models of higher segments. That’s the challenge facing the next big family SUV, which could be called the DS 8. Slated for 2025, its arrival is starting to become clearer, and we even have some idea of what it will look like. In a press release published by the brand, we find out what it will be based on the new STLA M platform from the Stellantis group. So he will share his basics with future Opel Manta and Lancia Gamma, among which it will become a chic and refined alternative. DS counting on a battery with a capacity of 98 kWh, which provides 700 kilometers of autonomy!
A cousin of the Peugeot e-3008
As for its cousin the Peugeot e-3008it could be equipped with a 230-horsepower electric motor, behind which a laterall-wheel drive version with a capacity of 388 horsepower ! Like the e-3008, its entry level should be provided by a a more modest 86 kWh battery, to offer a more affordable price. This will largely be based on study Aero Sport Loungepresented in 2020. It will offer up to seven seats and will assembled in Italy, at the Stellantis plant in Melfi.
