While in Varna, Bulgaria, the prime minister was asked what the government would do if the Central Bank delayed a decision on the fiscal package or if the decision was unfavorable.

  • “KKR decisions are not discussed, they are implemented. If there is such a decision, we will come up with changes very quickly. We created a mechanism and stopped spending from the budget sphere, and we are still keeping it under control.
  • I know that many people during this period attacked the Minister of Finance, but I know that he is a very responsible person and had a completely professional approach. And we have the tools right now. It is possible to come not with new taxes, but with other budgetary fiscal instruments, in particular with regard to expenses, to maintain this balance,” Çolaku noted.

Colaku no longer wants to ask the CCR to hurry up with the fiscal measures announcement: I would not want to put any pressure on the judges

Prime Minister Marcel Çolaku announced on Monday that he would no longer ask for an extension until October 18, when the Constitutional Court will hear an appeal by USR and Forte Drepta over the law on fiscal measures for which the government has accepted responsibility. He noted that he did not want to put pressure on the judges, citing the fact that most of the measures would still take effect on January 1, 2024.

USR and Forţa Dreptei filed a legal appeal to the Constitutional Court on Friday regarding some fiscal measures for which Prime Minister Marcel Čolaku took responsibility in parliament.

The signatories refer to the fact that the conditions for holding the Government accountable were not met. They also claim that the Prime Minister violated 13 articles of the Constitution with the draft law.
