
Several foreign tourists who came to Bucharest were left without cards, the Metropolitan Police said on Friday that seven young people have been detained in this case. They used stolen cards and made various payments, the losses amounted to approximately 7,000 euros.
According to the Metropolitan Police, between May and August 2023, several young people between the ages of 19 and 21 acted in prearranged mini-groups in the Old Center, where they left several foreign tourists without cards.
“During the investigation, it was established that the suspects made several payments to various business entities through the fraudulent use of bank cards, which they used to carry out several financial transactions, without the consent of the owners, as well as unauthorized access to the servers of banking institutions that issue cards, and as well as to POS IT systems where operations were carried out,” the police said in a statement.
During searches of the thieves’ residences, mobile phones, white weapons, several bags, the origin of which could not be confirmed, and four bags containing approximately 500 grams of a psychoactive substance were discovered and seized. The bags were taken away by UBOZ employees.
Seven suspects were caught and brought to a hearing, and then detained for crimes against the property of foreign nationals, as well as against computer systems represented by the servers of some banking units.
