The Russians again attacked Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube, near the border with Romania, overnight Thursday into Friday, and footage from Isakchi shows the Shaheda drone falling and causing a massive explosion.

Russian drones attacked the port infrastructure in the Odesa region of Ukraine, damaging a grain silo in the Izmail district on Friday morning, Oleg Kiper, the governor of the region, said. Nine trucks caught fire at the scene, he wrote in Telegram, adding that the fire has since been extinguished and there are no victims.

According to Kiper, the air alert in the Odesa region lasted for three and a half hours: “The enemy fired again at the border and port infrastructure of the Izmail district.”

The Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that after the drone attacks, the ferry crossing from Orlivka to Romania was suspended and vehicles were diverted.

“In connection with the night shelling by enemy drones of the port and border infrastructure, measures are being taken to stabilize work at the ferry crossing point “Orlivka” on the border with Romania. No one was injured in the attack. Work at the checkpoint has been temporarily suspended,” the border service reported.

Orlivka is located across the Danube from Isakch and about 10 km from Izmail district. A video posted online, purportedly taken from Isakchi, shows that a drone launched by the Russians would have hit there as well.

“It went straight to customs”

On the footage, active shells of two Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems can be seen, and the characteristic sound of the “Shakhed” kamikaze drone can be heard. Then you see and hear a big explosion that happened right on the other side of the Danube.

“Mom, it really went through customs,” is heard in the video, presumably the person filming.

Ukraine said it had shot down 25 of 33 attack drones launched by Russia overnight from Thursday to Friday.

This is stated in the message of the Air Force of Ukraine in Telegram.

What did Johannis say about Russia’s attacks on the Danube ports

President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday that during a teleconference with US President Joe Biden and the leaders of the EU and NATO, the drones that recently fell in Romania after the Russian attacks were discussed, and he received “very specific” answers: “Together with NATO, we are basically clear. about how we will implement additional drone protection in the area.”

On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden spoke by phone with several important US allies, as the future of US funding to Ukraine remains uncertain, and Klaus Iohannis also took part in the discussions.

Responding on Thursday to the question of whether he requested additional military assistance in the context of Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube, on the border with Romania, the head of state replied: “We discussed the issues related to the drones that fell in Romania as a result of Russian attacks on ports on the Danube, and I got not only encouragement, I got very specific answers.”

“Congratulations, the United States has allocated additional aircraft for air surveillance. Together with NATO, we basically have a clear understanding of how we will implement additional drone protection in this area. This is being worked on. So, the situation is moving and we, the army, have moved more defense weapons to the area and we hope that no untoward incident will happen. In any case, these attacks on Ukrainian ports are war crimes because there is only civilian infrastructure there. There is absolutely nothing military that can be attacked,” Klaus Iohannis said.

It will be recalled that at least three drones launched by the Russians in the war that began in Ukraine fell in Romania, in Plaura and Nufera in Tulcea county.

On September 7, the National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) decided to take measures to protect the population in the areas of the territory of Romania, adjacent to the Ukrainian cities of Reni and Izmail, as well as to issue RO-Alert messages from the ISU, according to MApN, regarding the risk of the fall of some “elements , belonging to the military means used in the conflict”.
