On average, there are 4-5 suspensions of gambling operators, from one month to six months, for the participation of minors in gambling, according to Mykhailo-Silviu Pokora, vice president of the National Gambling Office – ONJN (which has the powers of the president).

“As you know, the access of minors to gambling halls is prohibited. We know there are problems, but because of the computer program and the database we have in mind, any participant has to scan an ID document,” Pokora said.

At that moment, according to him, “the operator no longer has a reason to enter, not to see the cashier, not to notice, to present a false ID. When you hold your ID up to the scanner, an X or permission appears.’

According to him, ONJN intends to dramatically increase the number of violations “and no longer be able to issue warnings for such violations of the law.”

“I am thinking of a fine of 50,000 to 100,000 lei, without half the minimum for 15 days. Then operators will ask themselves whether they will allow access to minors or not,” he explained.

He also touched on the project on taxation of gambling operators.

“We have increased the guarantees to eliminate the risk of non-payment of these license fees, which are significant to the state budget,” he says.

He stated that there are restrictions on the means of advertising.

“We will no longer have on the boards (there are no advertisements) objects, valuables, goods that encourage the participants of this activity to gamble,” explained Pokora.

“He entered the bar, saw a girl and insisted on putting another 10 lei”

It was also noted that thanks to this project, gambling activities were excluded from the place of sale of alcoholic beverages.

“You realize. In the countryside, someone would go into a bar to serve beer, he would see another drink, he would be encouraged to put another 10 lei in that machine to make a profit.”

With this ordinance, he said, we have the ability to create an office-wide database where any gambler can request self-exclusion. It will not be for a day, two, three, but for 6 months.”
