Ukraine has removed Hungarian bank OTP from its list of “international war sponsors” — companies accused of financially supporting Russia’s invasion — Ukraine’s National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption announced on Monday, Reuters reports.
“During several days of round-the-clock discussions with the participation of the EU’s foreign policy service, OTP Bank made a number of commitments regarding its future plans for the Russian market,” the agency explained its decision.
The bank was added to the list in May due to continued operations in Russia.
It was suspended from the list on September 29 as Kyiv hoped the decision would lead to Hungary unblocking 500 million euros in EU military aid, but Budapest said the suspension did not indicate significant changes.
“Hungary does not even want to discuss EU financing of arms supplies to Ukraine until the authorities in Kyiv remove OTP Bank from the list of international sponsors of the war and restore the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia,” said Peter Sijarto recently. , Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary.
