Energy efficiency has become an extremely important chapter for European institutions in the context of the Green Deal policy, which has the ambitious goal of making us the first continent to achieve climate neutrality. And the field of green transition turned out to be even more necessary with the disconnection from Russian gas after the invasion of Ukraine. In this situation, the production of green energy tends to become a strategic area for all the countries of the European Union, and Romania is no exception.

A real solar revolution has been taking place in our country for several months now. More and more houses with photovoltaic panels are appearing in the area, and the number of consumers has increased fivefold in the past year and a half, according to data collected by HotNews.ro.

For companies, the global ESG trend – environmental, social, governance – has become more than a nice hat. Using environmental, social and governance factors to measure companies’ performance and impact when it comes to sustainability is now an important step in investment decisions.

Energy efficiency, an EU goal, accelerated by the invasion of Ukraine

Energy efficiency has a simple definition: to obtain as many products or services as possible with as little electricity consumption as possible, with the ultimate goal of building a sustainable and clean future. However, the turning point for the European authorities was the war in Ukraine, which accelerated the process of diversification of energy resources and made separation from Russia the desire of (almost) all EU member states.

Thus, in March 2023, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU agreed on an energy efficiency goal of 11.7% for each of the member states by 2030. In other words, countries are required to save energy at the level of 1.49% of their average consumption per year, a gradual increase from the current level of 0.8%, which should reach 1.9% by the end of the period.
