OpenAI announced on Wednesday the most significant update to ChatGPT since its launch, now that it can browse the web to provide users with up-to-the-minute information, Reuters and News.ro reported.
This means that the information that the chatbot has at its disposal is no longer limited to information until September 2021, until it is trained.
“The preview is available today for Plus and Enterprise users, and we’ll be rolling out to all users soon. To enable it, select ‘Browse with Bing’ in the selector under GPT-4,” the company said in a message on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The update will now allow ChatGPT to collect real-time information and answer users’ questions about current events, opening new opportunities for its use.
The announcement comes after OpenAI unveiled another major update to ChatGPT earlier this week, which will allow the viral chatbot to have voice conversations with users and interact with images, bringing it closer to popular artificial intelligence (AI) assistants such as Apple’s Siri.
What new can ChatGPT do?
Voice is not based on the old text-to-speech system where a robotic voice reads text from a page, but is generated based on a few seconds of speech sample created by professional voice actors. Thanks to this, the five voices that users can choose from sound as natural as possible.
At the same time, the new feature allows users to send the chatbot an image and ask questions related to its content.
For example, a user can post a photo of a broken item and ask how it can be fixed. This option will come in handy when the manufacturer solves the “hallucinations” problem that ChatGPT and other chatbots are currently suffering from.
These features will only be available to those who pay $20 per month for a ChatGPT Plus subscription or to companies that subscribe to the Enterprise plan.
On Wednesday, Facebook/Meta also unveiled a series of chatbots of many types that it hopes will attract young people and keep them on Instagram, Facebook and all of their products for longer.
There are a total of 28 talking assistants, some of which will imitate the voices of celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Jane Austen or Snoop Dogg.
