Romania’s national team has been punished with a provisional ban from the preliminary round of the 2024 European Championship with Kosovo, while the Kosovo federation has responded to the UEFA sanctions.

The Football Federation of Kosovo is dissatisfied with UEFA’s disciplinary decisions in the case of Romania

The match between Romania and Kosovo was suspended for almost an hour after UniČ›i Sub Tricolor hung a banner reading “Kosovo e Serbia” on the pitch.

The match was eventually resumed, but Romania did not escape UEFA sanctions.

In particular, the Romanian Football Federation was fined 52,000 euros, and the match between Romania and Andorra, scheduled for October 15 at the National Arena in Bucharest, will not be open to the general public, but children under 14 will have access for free.

The Kosovo federation reacted immediately after the sanctions announced by UEFA and said that the punishment was too light.

“The Football Federation of Kosovo expresses its dissatisfaction with the disciplinary decision made by UEFA against the Football Federation of Romania, with a fine of 52,000 euros and the playing of the match without spectators.

FFK will continue the legal proceedings and file a complaint with the UEFA authorities, demanding the maximum possible punishment for the FRF.

In this sense, it would be an example that under no circumstances will UEFA tolerate racist insults directed at members of the federation and an internationally recognized country.

FFK is determined to ask UEFA, through sanctions against the FFK, to make it clear to every federation or fan that the State of Kosovo, the Kosovo national team and FFK should be treated and respected in the same way as other countries, national teams or federations under the auspices of UEFA.” – says the official press release of the Federation.
