The National Bank of Romania has been informed that the institution’s name has been used by people claiming to be acting on behalf of the National Bank of Romania in connection with alleged online loans issued in the names of callers. Personal data was requested for various reasons (confirmation of credit applications, removal of credit from the system, card details, etc., depending on the answers of the person contacted).

“Please note that these calls were not initiated from the telephone network of the BNR. We repeat the fact that BNR, as the central bank of the country, does NOT have the authority to offer credit products or services to the population!

It is important not to respond to requests of this type that come from people claiming to be employees or representatives of BNR, and which refer to alleged loans requested/approved/provided by BNR, and request personal data or documents or money transfers for various purposes” , – said the message sent on Wednesday by the institution under the leadership of Mugur Iserescu.

At the same time, the BNR informed the police about the fraudulent use of telephone numbers and the name of the BNR.
