NATO’s secretary general insists the conflict in Ukraine is a “war of attrition,” but it has not reached a stalemate, Sky News reports.

However, Kyiv urgently needs new air defense supplies, including ammunition, spare parts and maintenance for systems already in the Ukrainian military, Jens Stoltenberg told reporters in New York.

“We see how air defense saves lives in Ukraine every day,” he said.

He cited Ukraine’s recent successes in its counteroffensive as proof that the situation had not reached a stalemate, and called on the West to continue providing military, humanitarian and financial aid to the country.

“If we want to end the war, if we want a just and lasting peace, then military support for Ukraine is the right way,” Stoltenberg said.

“We are ready for long-term action. Not because we can predict exactly how long this war will last, but because we need to send a message that President Putin cannot wait for us,” he added.
