PNL Secretary General Lucian Bode said Sunday night that there was no discussion in the party about forming a so-called democratic bloc with the PSD, and the liberals want to win the election. However, he believes that the ruling alliance with the PSD is the “most stable and future-oriented political structure” as the two major parties currently govern “without too many interruptions”.
Lucian Bode was asked on Sunday night on Digi 24 about the formation of a democratic bloc and he replied: “I don’t know, I haven’t heard of a democratic bloc being discussed in the National Liberal Party.”
The general secretary of the Liberals believes that the debate should start with the PNL dowry.
“The discussion has to start with what the National Liberal Party has today, with the dowry of the PNL. 1,256 mayors, 119 parliamentarians, 17 heads of district councils, more than 14,000 deputies of local councils, including 1,000 young people under 35 and 2,000 women in local administrations, 10 MEPs. The party that for three and a half years took charge of governance, that led Romania through overlapping crises,” Lucian Bode also confirmed.
Asked if the PNL was paying for these crises, Bode said: “It is paying, as all parties that are downsized in government are paying.”
“The National Liberal Party is constantly at the level of 19-21% (…) It is a big party, a party that cannot afford not to offer victory in the elections as its goal,” added the general secretary of the PNL.
He stated that the Liberals want a continuation of the government from 2024 with the PSD.
“Now management is being eroded. We want to continue to lead after 2024. With PSD. Because we are not talking about extremists, and those who have been in the government for eight months and fled the government, I mean the UDR, do not have the responsibility to take over when the government is in trouble. What should we discuss with them?!”, Bode also stated.
Asked if he ruled out the option of a right-wing alliance with the USR and the PMP from the start, Bode said: “I don’t rule out that option, I’m sure I don’t rule it out, but I say it’s the most rational approach. . Today we are together in the government. We can rule together from next year for another 4 years, together with PSD. This is the most stable and promising political structure. We have shown that we can govern together without serious differences, but our duty is to strengthen the right to continue to be the most important party on the right.”
Bode also announced that he would merge with ALDE, which would bring almost 900 local elected officials.
“PNL will win the presidential elections”
Lucian Bode declares that the 2024 presidential election will also be won by the PNL, despite PSD’s natural desire to win this electoral battle.
“The National Liberal Party will appoint the president of the country in 2024 as well. She did very well by giving the president of Romania for 20 years. Romania is on a very good Euro-Atlantic path, we can continue to develop in this partnership. PSD, of course, wants to have a candidate who will win. They wanted it for 20 years. Of course it should be, but the National Liberal Party, with the dowry it has, with what it has done in the last three and a half years in power, has all the prerequisites to give, not a candidate, but a future president Romania,” said Lucian Bode.
He believes that it is very important for the PNL to convince Romanians, starting with the first round of elections in 2024.
“The stakes of the European Parliament elections are also civilizational, if you like (…) We will have to choose between Euro-Atlantic civilization and Putin’s model. I accept what I say. Putin’s model is a circus, aggressive brawlers and propaganda. I mean extremists, I mean GOLD. Romanians will have to choose between two models,” Bode also noted. (news.ro)
