So far, 14 damage cases have been opened on the basis of insurance policies dedicated to homes and companies, as a result of notifications received from those who were affected by the explosions at the liquefied gas station in Krevedia commune, Dambovitsa county, the Union of Insurers announced on Thursday – GREASE.
Claims inspectors are currently analyzing the amount of compensation to be paid.
In the tragedy last week, 5 people died, almost 60 others were injured, dozens of buildings were damaged. It is about both houses and premises of the enterprise. However, only a part of them was also financially protected by an insurance policy.
Even with only 1 in 5 houses in Romania insured, last year their owners received compensation of over 43.3 million lei from UNSAR member companies on the basis of optional insurance, just for fire damage, an increase of over 69% compared from 2021, without taking into account the provided compensation for losses caused by the occurrence of other risks.
Additional home insurance offers an additional level of protection compared to the mandatory PAD, in addition to natural disasters, it covers other risks such as: fire, explosion, body fall, flood caused by damage to water and sewage systems, air conditioning, heating, and other contingencies situations – flooding of neighbors, failures in the operation of the heating plant, damage to electronic/household appliances, etc.
Additional home insurance can only be issued for buildings that are insured under a mandatory policy (PAD).
The owners of the gas station in Krevedia announced their “intention” to repair the destroyed houses
The company Flagas, which owns the gas station in Krevedia and is owned by the son of the mayor Caracal, has expressed its “intention” to take on the costs of repairing the buildings damaged by the explosions on August 26. The document, developed by two administrators of the company, was published on Facebook by the city hall of Krevedia.
The document is addressed to the mayor of Crevedia, Florin Petre, who is in charge of the two administrators of Flagas – Ionuc Doldurea, the son of the mayor of Caracal, and Cosmin Stinge – without holographic signatures. The document was published on the Facebook page of the city hall of Krevedia: “ANNOUNCEMENT – To the attention of the people who were affected by the explosions of the gas station in Krevedia”, without any comments.
As a result of the explosions, 10 buildings were destroyed, and another 75 were damaged
On Sunday, September 3, the head of the Department of Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, said that the explosions destroyed ten buildings and damaged another 75.
The shareholders of Flagas SRL are Ionuc Daniel Doldurea, the son of PSD Caracal mayor (51%), and Cosmin Ionuc Stenga (49%).
Three days after the explosions, representatives of the company Flagas SRL sent a statement saying that they are “concerned these days about the situation of the victims and all the people who have been affected and are suffering in any way because of this accident”. : “With unspeakable grief we are devastated to realize the severe trials through which so many families are passing, and we hope that we shall not be disqualified in our efforts to relieve them.”
The devastating explosions in Krevedia revealed a whole series of violations – the gas station, which belonged to the PSD mayor’s son Caracal, was closed only for documentation purposes.
The liquefied gas station in Krevedia was fined several times by the Inspectorate of Emergency Situations and closed since September 2020, but nevertheless continued to operate, and the investigation by the prosecutor’s office also aims to establish the role of the institutions that should have carried out inspections and ensured that the LPG storage does not continue to work.
