
The company, formerly known as Twitter, now called X under Elon Musk, is embroiled in a lawsuit that accuses it of helping the Saudi government spy on political dissidents and violate their rights.
The lawsuit was originally filed by Araj al-Sadhan, the sister of former Saudi aid worker Abdulrahman al-Sadhan, who was forcibly disappeared and later sentenced to 20 years in prison for tweets critical of the Saudi government. Al-Sadhan alleges that Twitter provided her brother’s identifying information to the Saudi government, which led to his imprisonment, torture and a sham trial, Gizmodo reports. In addition, the case describes how three Saudi agents infiltrated Twitter, two of whom worked as employees, in 2014 and 2015.
