It was in 2018. At one of the stands of the Paris Motor Show, an unknown automaker sat proudly. The name, logo and unfamiliar models appeared: GAC, for Guangzhou Automobile Company. The context at that time was not the same as today – Chinese manufacturers were starting to stutter in Europe – so this presence was not at all trivial. GAC is a large state construction company, just like SAIC, Dongfeng or FAW. A company that wants to be the standard-bearer of China’s automotive (and industrial) boom. But unlike its counterparts, GAC isn’t the most advanced constructor when it comes down to it international export.

1551: GAC conquers the Old Continent

The group is mainly present in emerging markets: Asia, the Middle East and Africa in particular. Through its Aion and Trumpchi brands, it sells sedans, crossovers, SUVs and minivans that have nothing to do with early models. The group has taken recent years an unprecedented stylistic and technological shift, and can finally hope to compete with major global brands by breaking into the world’s major markets. Including: Of course, Europe, which GAC intends to integrate very soon. These ambitions turn into the new strategic plan that has just been released is called “1551”.

4 main pillars of development

The first goal of this “New Heights” plan, the famous “1”, is this sell 500,000 cars internationally by 2030. In particular, it is about priority “5” markets with high potential : Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Asia Pacific and Russia/CIS. To achieve success“5” axis of development is based on the internationalization of the group, the launch of global models, the approximation of production to the markets, the complementarity of services (buying and selling, after-sales service and financial solutions) and a more ecological approach to the production cycle. Finally, create more synergy between the group’s projects and teams around the world. Goal: to become a structured and organized global player. Nothing concrete at the moment, but the ambition is predictable and demonstrated. The first models, most likely from Aion brandmay arrive in our latitudes as early as next year.
