The national company for the management of road infrastructure (CNAIR) announced that crews of the Braille bridge builder had checked more than a third of the parapet screws on Wednesday, finding 70 loose screws, and the checks would continue. CNAIR Director General Christian Pistole asked the builders to carry out the work professionally, noting that the bridge will only be accepted if it meets quality standards, News.ro reports.
“Teams from the Italian construction company Webuild tested today 35,000 of the 100,000 parapet screws installed on the suspension bridge across the Danube from Breila. Of these, approximately 70 loose screws were found. Tomorrow the other screws will continue to be checked to make sure they are all tightened according to the technical regulations,” CNAIR officials said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
According to the cited source, the operation is overseen by those responsible for the execution of the contract at CNAIR.
“CNAIR CEO Christian Pistole has once again asked the builders of the Braila Danube suspension bridge to take the contract seriously and ensure the work is carried out professionally. He drew their attention to the fact that the bridge would be received only if it met the quality standards stipulated in the contract with CNAIR. The General Director of TsNAIR specified that those works that do not meet the quality standards must be repaired at the expense of the developer,” TsNAIR reported.

REPER MEP Vlad Botos on Wednesday sent an open letter to the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elise Ferreira regarding the compliance with construction safety standards for the Braila Bridge.
“Today, as an MEP and Vice-President of the Commission for Regional Development (REGI) of the European Parliament, I sent a letter to Commissioner Eliza Ferreira, responsible for Cohesion and Reform at the European Commission. The subject of this letter is to comply with construction safety standards for the Braille Bridge, a major infrastructure project financed by European funds,” REPER sent to the European Parliament.
Botos revealed that “the suspension bridge over the Danube in Braila district, opened with great fanfare by the government authorities, is the subject of some news and social media posts showing that it has parts that do not meet safety standards. which people have the right to count on.”
“I have asked the Commissioner to provide information on compliance with the security requirements that all projects funded by the European Union must meet in order to shed light on this controversial subject. I consider it my duty to act while I have official leverage to obtain correct and clear information on this matter.
Failure to comply with safety measures, improper bolts, faulty asphalt can have disastrous consequences for those who use the bridge. We need to know as soon as possible whether the information currently circulating in the press is true or the bridge is dangerous, so that we can rectify the situation as soon as possible. I will follow this topic and try to get information through official means, because the safety of citizens comes first,” said the MEP from REPER.
