The National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) opened a criminal case for possible corruption among some officials carrying out control duties after the explosions in Krevedia, Dambovitsa County, judicial sources told Agerpres on Sunday.
- “NABU has opened criminal proceedings on the fact of abuse of official position, in which it is investigating possible corrupt practices of officials who perform control duties,” the sources said.
In addition, the case opened by the Prosecutor General’s Office for wrongful destruction that caused the disaster also concerns how government agencies allowed the company to continue operating after September 2020, when it was closed. Prosecutor General Alex Florenta said that several searches were carried out, including at the city hall of Crevedia.
He said that by collecting data from various institutions, it is necessary to build a “full picture of the company’s activities” both before and after the suspension of the permit to establish whether there was any control.
Investigations by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Military Prosecutor’s Office
At the same time, the General Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case to establish the causes of the explosion.
At the same time, the prosecutors of the General Prosecutor’s Office have to establish in the Crevedia case what activities were carried out by the company that owned the gas station, and how control was carried out after the closure of the workplace in 2020. Prosecutor General Alex Florenza announced this on Sunday.
The case – in rem – was organized by the prosecutor Marius Jakob, the former deputy of Laura Koduci Kivesi when she was in charge of DNA, Jakob was also involved in the investigation of the murder of the lawyer Elodia Ginescu and the fire in the County Hospital in Piatra Neamts and in the maternity hospital in Giulesti.
In addition, a second case was opened on Saturday evening by the military prosecutor’s office in Bucharest, and it concerns how firefighters intervened in a liquefied gas warehouse, where there were several explosions and then a fire.
“Proceedings were opened on the grounds of crimes – non-implementation and non-observance of labor protection measures and intentional bodily injury. Automatically in such situations, such a case is opened, and it does not mean that there were signs that something was wrong, or that there were suspicions that the fire brigade did not do its job,” the military prosecutor told HotNews.ro.
On Sunday, the prosecutor’s office transferred the case to the Bucharest Military Court of Appeal.
Two explosions at a gas station in Crevedia resulted in two deaths and 56 injuries, most of them among intervention forces. Several people are in critical condition, and the authorities have begun transferring the wounded abroad through the civil protection mechanism. Out of the total number of victims, 43 people are employees of the Police Department (39 firefighters, 2 policemen and 2 gendarmes). The population of the area affected by two powerful explosions on Saturday in Krevedia was evacuated.
The liquefied gas station belonged to the company Flagas SRL, whose shareholders are Ionuc Daniel Doldurea (51%) – the son of the mayor of Caracal – and Cosmin Ionuc Stinga (49%), according to Termene.ro, News.ro writes. The mayor of Caracalla, Ion Doldurea, is in his first term. He is a businessman from Caracal and president of the PSD municipal organization.
