An increase in the concentration of PM10 particles is currently observed in the northern part, respectively in Baloteşti, Voluntara, Otopeni and Bufta, after the explosion and fire that occurred on Saturday evening at the LPG station located on DN 1A in the town of Crevedia, but so far we can only talk about a slight increase, the head of the National Environmental Guard, Andrii Korlan, told Agerpres.

“We have created a crisis center under the Ministry of Natural Resources, with all subordinate institutions, i.e. Environmental Protection, Inspection, Monitoring, Agency, respectively, Meteorology. Indeed, an increase in the concentration of PM 10 particles is now observed in the northern part, in the districts of Balotesti, Voluntari, Otopeni and Buftea. Wind in the direction of the capital, from the direction of movement west, southwest 10-15 km/h. For now, we are only talking about some minor increases, but if the smoke cloud continues to move towards the capital, at some point we can talk about the phenomenon of pollution,” Korlan said.

According to him, the State Environmental Agency’s own laboratory was sent to the site, which accurately determined the category of pollutants in this release. “Currently, the fire is burning, it is difficult for firefighters to intervene, there is environmental protection. After extinguishing the fire, we await information on the cause of the fire in order to be able to comply with the requirements of our environmental legislation. Since things are always moving, this is the preliminary information we can provide you with. We will learn more as environmental legislation is modeled on atmospheric emissions to determine whether a phenomenon can cause pollution. Simulation is carried out for 60 minutes. We are waiting for colleagues from the agency, we have our own laboratory, we will communicate with the population in real time if there are significant risks,” the HNM specialist emphasized.

The head of the Environmental Guard recommends the population to stay at home and close the windows, as these suspended particles in a certain concentration can be very dangerous for the respiratory tract, especially for those who suffer from pneumological diseases.

According to the National Weather Service estimate for the period August 26, 20:40 – August 27, 06:00, the wind direction is expected to be from the east to the northeast with an average speed of 10-15 km/h and gusts of about 30 km/h. therefore, the evolution of the smoke cloud will be dispersal and easy movement to the west-southwest.

“Taking into account the simulation of numerical models carried out within the framework of the National Meteorological Administration regarding the evolution of the smoke cloud in the area of Krevedia – Dambovitsa county, it is estimated that the wind direction will be from the east to the north-east sector with an average speed of 10 – 15 km/h and gusts about 30 km/h, so the development of the smoke cloud will be dispersion and easy movement to the west-southwest. The sky will become clearer,” the ANM reports.

Several powerful explosions occurred on Saturday at a gas station in the town of Krevedia, Dambovitsa County, followed by a large-scale fire. Several victims with severe burns were recorded, at least one person died. The population of the area has been evacuated, traffic on Highway 1A is completely blocked.
