Health Minister Alexandru Rafila announced that “at least one death” had been confirmed following the explosion at the Crevedia gas station. Another 8 people have body burns of various degrees, some of them will be taken to Baghdasar and Floreaska hospitals, and if necessary, they will be transported abroad or to other large burn hospitals in the country.

“There are also dead, I cannot confirm one or two. There are about 8 victims with burns of various degrees, one of them with large burns is in the Burn Hospital, the others have been sent to hospitals with burn departments, respectively Bagdasar and Floreaska. We have set up an emergency team at the ministry level, and other hospitals with plastic surgery departments will take care of patients if there are more (…) One death has been confirmed, the second victim has not yet been confirmed. So there are deaths. At least that’s the information I got,” Alexandrou Rafila told Digi 24.

The Minister of Health stated that it is possible that some of the victims will be transferred abroad.

“We are checking and we will make a decision quickly if it is necessary to transfer some of these patients abroad, because if the capacity of the hospitals in Bucharest is exceeded, given that there were already many people with burns hospitalized due to other accidents, not I think , that it is time to waste a minute not to help these people. We currently have two sites in Baghdasar, one patient will initially be served at the UPU. The situation is similar in Floreaska, we are talking with the managers there. Even if there are not enough places in specialized departments, they are delivered to the UPYU for providing first medical and first aid, and if the reception conditions do not allow it, that is, there are no places in specialized departments for burns, they will be transferred abroad as soon as possible,” said Rafila .

Alexandru Rafila also explained that there is also a possibility to deliver the victims of the explosion to hospitals in Romania.

“We still have several hospitals in the country that can treat large burns, we also have one in Timisoara, if necessary, they will be transferred there. We are in touch with hospital directors and colleagues from the Ministry of Health. I created a crisis center, personally took care of it,” said Rafila.
