“The first moment I put on my football boots at the age of 10 was the beginning of a special journey for me. From playing in the park with friends to playing in some of the biggest stadiums in front of huge crowds around the world. The support I have been given throughout this time has been incredible in every way and I am truly grateful.
I have been on the football field with so many incredible players and created so many unforgettable memories.
I would like to thank all the managers and coaches I worked with, especially Harry because I started with him and Arsene for believing in me and supporting me when I joined the club at 16.
In 18 fantastic years in the Premier League, there are so many moments I will cherish:
Early days at Southampton, my move to Arsenal where I spent 12 wonderful years and scored over 100 goals. Winning the FA Cup and scoring in the final is every kid’s dream. The fact that I had the opportunity to represent England 47 times, that I played at the 2006 World Cup aged just 17, and that I still hold the record for the youngest debut for England at senior level and the youngest. scoring a hat-trick at the age of 19 – I’ll never forget that feeling.
Goodison Park is a special place to play and Everton will always be in my heart. I really enjoyed my time there and I will never forget how the fans welcomed me and my family.
Then finally back to Southampton to complete the circuit. This is a great club with a young and exciting squad that I know will get better and better. I’ve been lucky enough to get offers to keep playing, but I think it’s only fair to finish where I started and hang up my boots.
I thank everyone who has been with me all this time” – Theo Walcott.
