We live in a world where personal struggles often go unnoticed. A sometimes dramatic story, but behind which lies a true display of courage and determination, it captures the attention of the entire community. This is also the case of Mirchi, an 18-year-old boy who has been battling cancer for two years.
“My child understood from an early age that life can be unfair. At just 17 years old, he came face to face with an extremely powerful opponent: leukemia. His fight against this relentless disease was impressive. He clenched his teeth, endured unimaginable pain, nausea and vomiting. He did not give up for a second, even though he was lying in a hospital bed for months on end, without friends, colleagues, loved ones. Words cannot describe his courage and determination. He was so happy when the tests came back clean, when he knew he could get his teenage life back. He went back to school, got his driver’s license, moved out on his own. Everything seemed to be back to normal after months of nightmare.” This is the disturbing testimony of Aurelia, the mother of a teenager who was struck by fate at the very beginning of his journey.
After a difficult treatment in 2022, the family hoped that the disease had won and they could continue their lives with optimism. Unfortunately, the reality was quite different. The disease returned with irresistible force.
“I felt shaking from head to toe when Mircea called me and said: Mom, I have a fever again, my bones hurt and I’m spitting up something black. why mom Why did God choose me to suffer? What should you say to a child who has been tested like this? I felt like I was falling off my feet,” Aurelia told us.
“After aggressive treatment with cytostatics last year, I made every effort to make Mircea understand that he has overcome the disease and is a fighter. I supported him in everything he wanted. Studied at a driving school, moved independently. I gave him everything he wanted, just so he wouldn’t lose hope and forget about the chronic illness he was going through. Unfortunately, the happiness was short-lived. The disease struck again, suddenly, and shattered all his dreams. But we are strong and will fight to the end. We do not lose hope that I will see him again in a healthy and full life.” Evgeny, Mirchi’s father, told us about the desperate efforts he made to keep his son’s hope and will to beat the disease.
The struggle of a teenager is not only a physical and moral test, but also a financial one. His family has gone to great lengths to raise the resources needed for his treatment, but it is an insurmountable task.
“I urgently returned to Turkey for treatment as soon as Mirchi’s condition worsened. My child is bedridden. Everything happened so fast. Now his life depends on treatment, which costs at least 200 thousand euros. I don’t know how we are going to get such a large amount. We were also unable to settle old debts. Borrowed, borrowed from relatives and friends. We cannot prove it alone, me and my wife,” Eugene Kotoman admitted to us with tears in his eyes.
“Despite all the obstacles, Mirchi’s family does not stop hoping. Determined and strong, they together overcome all the challenges that life prepares for them. It is a story of love, unity and will that reminds us how precious life is and how important it is to be with those who are fighting serious illnesses. Together, we can prove to them, thanks to our donations, that they can defeat the most terrible disease in the world. Any amount transferred to the accounts of the “Save the Heart” Association brings Mircha one step closer to treatment. Cancer should not be a death sentence, but only an obstacle that can be overcome with joint efforts. We defeated it in the past, we can defeat it now together!” Vlad Placinte, president of the “Save the Heart” Association.
