The German company Rheinmetall will deliver the Luna New Generation unmanned aerial system to Ukraine by the end of the year, reports Bild am Sonntag on Sunday with reference to company sources.
Ukraine is desperate to increase its arsenal of weapons, from drones and ammunition to tanks, in the fight against a Russian invasion.
The “drone system” consists of a ground control station with several drones, a launch catapult and military trucks, Bild reported, citing Reuters.
The delivered Luna system will be able to be used as a reconnaissance system, to provide an LTE network, and also to intercept or jam communications.
According to a presentation on the Rheinmetall website, “the LUNA NG unmanned aerial vehicle is the newest element of the LUNA system for aerial surveillance, detection and real-time tracking. Thanks to its ultra-light but very stable structure made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, it offers a flight autonomy of more than 12 hours, and with a data link radius of more than 100 km, it achieves a space coverage of more than 30,000 km2. .”
