As you have certainly seen in our columns recently, France, together with GRP Emmanuel Macron and Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire, continues to promote the “Battery Valley” located in the north, where four factories will soon be established.
The Automotive CellS (ACC) joint venture plant, which is part of Stellantis, Total and Mercedes, was inaugurated a few weeks ago and will be operating at full speed by 2030. It is located in Billy Berklaw.
The AESC Envision factory will open its doors in Douai in 2024, the Verkor factory in Dunkirk the following year, and the ProLogium factory also in Dunkirk in 2026, and the batteries have already been declared “revolutionary”.
Will there be other factories?
The next goal of the government, bring Tesla to France, and on this occasion, Emmanuel Macron already met with Elon Musk several times. The whimsical head of the American firm promised “significant investments in France”without giving further details.
France’s reindustrialization is obviously good news for the economy and jobs. But exactly how many jobs will these factories create? Currently, every new factory announcement is accompanied by an estimate of the jobs that will be created, with significant increases as demand increases.
More than 10,000 jobs are at stake
The ACC plant will therefore have approximately 1,300 employees in 2023 and up to 3,000 in 2029. AESC Envision will employ approximately 1,000 people when it opens in 2024, and up to 3,000 in 2030, while Verkor expects 1,500 workers in 2025, with no future advances, and ProLogium 3,000 in 2026.
Together, these four projects show promise approximately 10,500 direct jobs by 2030not to mention the indirect jobs that will be created with subcontractors and temporary workers.
