Tafari Campbell, the personal chef of former US President Barack Obama, was found dead in a lake near Obama’s residence on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, police said, as quoted by the BBC. A 45-year-old man was surfing.
Tafari Campbell was reported missing in the waters of Edgartown Big Pond on Sunday. About 24 hours after the disappearance, the lifeless body was found at a depth of 2.4 meters, about 30 meters from the shore.
Massachusetts State Police said neither Barack Obama nor Michelle Obama were at the residence at the time of Campbell’s death.
“Tafari was a beloved member of our family. When we were about to leave the White House (not in 2017), we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he graciously agreed. He has been a part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken by his passing,” Obama said in a statement.
