The incident was released by the Europol Union, which cited the “frustration and helplessness” of the police, who were “forced to use some “special chainsaw-powered vehicles”.

According to the Europol Union, the incident took place on DJ 552, which was monitored by two policemen from Craiova Police Department 6.

“The car deliberately ignored the red light, driving past the queue of cars waiting for the light. The law enforcement officers acted quickly, starting a pursuit, during which the driver of the car drove at a high speed, over 100 km/h, even in residential areas. What was most disturbing was the irresponsible behavior of the driver, a European citizen with rights, who continued to speed in places where small children were playing, endangering his life and the lives of everyone on the street. Such indifference to the safety of others should have a severe sanction!”, the representatives of the trade union note.

They add that thanks to the quick and coordinated intervention of the policemen of the 6th division and the Kraiova Traffic Department, the driver was apprehended, although he tried to hide in people’s yards in the area. He was arrested and sentenced to a 270-day driving ban in addition to significant fines for several serious traffic violations, such as failing to stop for a signal, running a red light, failing to obey signs, yielding and aggressive driving.

“Nevertheless, this incident reminds us of the importance of tougher legislation on traffic violations. We cannot allow such irresponsible drivers to put our lives and the lives of our children at risk. One can only imagine the frustration and helplessness the police faced during yesterday’s chase when they had to use some “special cars with a chainsaw engine”, according to representatives of the Europol Union.
