Ukraine’s Kherson region will lose a significant portion of this year’s vegetable crop due to lack of water, warned Volodymyr Saldo, an official appointed by the Russian authorities to manage the Russian-controlled part of Kherson region (southern Ukraine), Sky News reports. .

The port city in the south of the country faced water problems after the Kakhovka dam burst in June.

The collapse of the dam not only caused a wave of floods in southern Ukraine, but also devastated a huge reservoir that many regions needed for fresh water.

“This is why the harvest will be lost,” Volodymyr Saldo said on state television.

It seems that he was referring to most of the Kherson region south of the Dnieper, which is controlled by Russia.

The region is known in Ukraine for its fruits and vegetables.

In 2021, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine reported that it also produced more than 3.3 million tons of grain.
