Hollywood actors join writers in picketing
For the first time in 63 years, Hollywood actors joined screenwriters in picketing on Friday in what became Tinseltown.’the biggest labor struggle in decades.
Actors and screenwriters have been negotiating with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for higher salaries in the age of streaming and restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence.
“Ted Lasso” star Jason Sudeikis, Rosario Dawson starring in the upcoming “Star Wars: Ahsoka” and Allison Janney of “The West Wing” fame were among SAG-AFTRA’s most famous members, actors’ union, to demonstrate.
The striking actors joined thousands of Writers Guild of America (WGA) members who walked off sets in early May.
The last time Hollywood saw a “double whammy” from actors and writers was in 1960.
