The entire leadership of the Ilfov County Police Inspectorate changed on Wednesday after Chief Inspector Cristian Pershinaru and his two deputies Stefan Frunzeanu and Gabriela Baicu resigned over abuse scandal at Voluntari and Afumati shelters. A new police chief is also being sought for the city of Voluntari, a city that was led by Mayor Florentin Pandele for 23 years after Dumitru Barabula resigned.
Thus, by the order of the Minister of the Interior, Chief Police Commissioner Dumitru Biltag was authorized to act as the head of the Ilfov District Police Inspectorate instead of Christian Pershinar, and Chief Commissioner Florea Remus-Mugurel and Deputy Police Commissioner Belan Alexandru-Dani were appointed as deputies instead of Stefan Frunzeanu and Gabriela Bayka.
According to the General Inspectorate of the Police of Romania, Baltag has extensive managerial experience, having previously worked as chief inspector of the Mures County Police Inspectorate, director of the National Office for Witness Protection and deputy of the General Inspectorate for Immigration.
Before her appointment to the position of Deputy Police of Ilfov, Florea Remus-Mugurel served as the Head of Division 23 of the Bucharest Police.
In addition, the second deputy in Ilfov, Bălan Alexandru-Daniel, comes from the position of Deputy Head of Division 2 of the Bucharest Police.
The General Police Inspectorate of Romania notes that “in the next period, the new leadership team of the Ilfov County Police Inspectorate will create a new leadership of the police of the city of Voluntari”, after Dumitru Barabula submitted his resignation.
It will be recalled that there was no resignation from the top in the whole scandal over the incredible abuse suffered by the elderly and disabled patients at the three shelters in Voluntari and Afumaka.
The head of the Ilfov Health Department, Theodore Gabriel Negulescu, was the only one to resign until Tuesday and Wednesday when he was fired from the Ilfov police force. Also, the president of the National Administration for the Protection of the Rights of People with Disabilities, Mihai Tomescu, the vice-president of the institution, Adela Krachun, and the general director of the National Agency for Payments and Social Inspection, Kristina Elena Anton, were dismissed.
Labor Minister Marius Budai said that his resignation in connection with the scandal regarding the horror shelters in Ilfov is “irrelevant”. After the journalist came back and asked him if he had even thought for a second about resigning, Marius Budai replied curtly: “Thank you very much for the question.”
