25 elderly people were found on Tuesday in an autonomous center for the elderly in Sector 6 of the capital, where the housing conditions were inadequate, hygiene rules were not followed and some products were expired, News.ro reported. Elderly people, most of whom cannot move, are being medically examined, and two women have been taken to hospital. The police have opened criminal proceedings and are investigating.
The Metropolitan Police reported that on Tuesday, around 3:00 p.m., the 20th Police Department called 112 and received a report from a man that a center for the elderly was operating illegally at the address in Sector 6.
Based on the notification and as a result of activities carried out together with the Prefecture of the Municipality of Bucharest, a control group consisting of police officers from the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest, a team from the Emergency Inspection of Bucharest-Ilfov and representatives of ANPIS, OPC, ITM, DSP and ANSVSA.
“After the first inspections, it was found that hygienic and sanitary rules are not followed, the accommodation conditions will be inappropriate, and the food offered will not meet the established norms of the law (including expired products) – a fact that can pose a threat to the lives of vulnerable people staying in this center. At the same time, the unit would not comply with the provisions of Law 333/2003 on the protection of objects, goods, valuables and the protection of persons and HG 1010/2004, in the sense that there would be no risk analysis, the security measures consist only in the installation of a video surveillance system (system video surveillance), which does not correspond from a technical point of view,” the quoted source said.
In addition, the shelter would not have a declared work point and would not have a work permit.
Elderly people undergo a medical examination and will be resettled
According to the cited source, the 25 people found in this center for the elderly are being medically evaluated by doctors and nurses from UPU-SMURD Bucharest and will be relocated to an appropriate facility.
Sources said there are six men and 19 women, most of whom cannot be relocated, of which two women have been taken to Elias Hospital and the rest will be resettled.
The Metropolitan police reported that a criminal case has been opened for illegal occupation of a professional activity and intentional bodily injury, which is under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office of the 6th district court.
Ciprian Chuku: The City Hall of Sector 6 has nothing to do with such centers
In his Facebook reaction to the news, Sector 6 Mayor Ciprian Chuku wants to emphasize that the said center for the elderly is private, underground, and the S6 City Hall does not have any certification or control powers. in its case.
- “Our centers are much higher than all standards in the country, I assure you of that! What you are reading is about private or underground centers/shelters that Sector 6 City Hall has nothing to do with! We do not authorize them, we do not control them. Institutions with attestation and control powers are subordinate to the Ministry of Labor!”
- “When you talk about Ward 6 like that, people rightly jump and automatically think of City Hall.”
- “Today, our centers were thoroughly inspected by the Capital Prefecture, ISU, ANPIS, OPC, ITM, DSP and showed themselves flawlessly! Thanks to my colleagues, social workers and managers for this!” – said Chuku.
