“As we speak, a new distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack continues against our country,” said the head of the National Cyber Security Center of Lithuania, Ludas Alisauskas.

A DDoS attack is a fraudulent attempt to disable or block computer resources by flooding them with abnormal Internet traffic.

The targets of the cyberattacks were Vilnius Municipality websites, especially tourist information, and a transport application. The National Cyber Security Center of Lithuania cooperates with intelligence services and the police, as well as with foreign partners.

The center also reported that on Sunday it received reports of two more cyberattacks, one of which was related to the hacking of a regional radio station.

His work was interrupted by misinformation about NATO and Ukraine. Lithuanian telecommunications operator Telia also said on Monday that it had observed calls for attacks on several Lithuanian government institutions and companies on the Telegram network.

Lithuania will host the NATO summit on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Ukraine calls for positive development before the NATO summit, Turkey criticized the entry of Sweden

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said Monday afternoon that NATO has decided to drop the requirement that Ukraine comply with the Accession Action Plan (AAP), which sets out the goals to be achieved before joining the military alliance.

“After intensive discussions, the NATO allies reached a consensus regarding the withdrawal of the MAP from Ukraine’s accession path. I welcome this long-awaited decision, which shortens our path to NATO,” wrote Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Twitter.

“This is also the best moment to provide clarity on inviting Ukraine to become a member,” Kuleba said. NATO did not immediately comment on Kuleba’s statements, but an AFP source confirmed the information.

Kyiv wants a clear invitation to join the alliance after Russia’s war against Ukraine ends and hopes to receive security guarantees by then.

Sweden’s NATO membership, another hot topic on the agenda, however, appears to have been postponed indefinitely after Turkish President Recep Erdogan said on Monday that the European Union must clear the way for Turkey to join the bloc before Turkey’s Parliament will approve the request. join a military alliance.

“From here, I appeal to these countries that made Turkey wait at the door of the European Union for more than 50 years,” Erdogan said a day before the start of the summit in Vilnius. “First pave the way for Turkey to join the European Union, and then we will open the way for Sweden.” , he demanded.

However, analysts believe that such a compromise is impossible, since the negotiations on Turkey’s accession to the EU are blocked due to the evolution of democracy and the rule of law in Ankara, as well as the deterioration of the situation with respect for human rights.
