Samsung has announced the “Unpacked” event on July 26, which will be organized in Seoul and will start at 14:00 Romanian time. The company hasn’t announced what it will be releasing, but it will undoubtedly be the new foldable phones that are usually released in the summer.

Tech sites such as The Verge and CNET report that Samsung may also introduce a new generation of watches, as well as new tablets. There have been various rumors in the US press about what these phones might bring, with some sources talking about changes in the folding mechanism and a larger external screen size on the Z Flip 5.

Sources also report that the phones will be 5-10% thinner, there may also be a weight reduction and one or two new colors will be added.

Flip phones remain niche because they are expensive, but sales are growing by tens of percent year over year.

According to IDC, more than 14 million foldable phones were sold worldwide last year, and this year the number will surpass 21 million, while the forecast for 2027 points to 48 million phones.

In Romania, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, released in the summer of 2022, costs between 6,500 and 6,700 lei, while the smaller Z Flip 4 model costs between 3,100 and 3,300 lei.

The big bet is that the price of feature phones will come down from generation to generation, especially as sales increase and the market becomes more competitive and customers have more choices.

In Romania, the foldable OPPO Find N2 Flip was also launched in the first quarter.

The latest entrant is Google, which in June unveiled the Pixel Fold, a phone that costs €1,900.
