“The President of the Republic confirmed his desire for the summit to achieve progress in relations between Ukraine and NATO, as well as become an opportunity for the allies to provide Ukraine with long-term support from the point of view of security,” the Elyseeskyi emphasized.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy demands from the Alliance “concrete” elements regarding the prospect of joining after the end of the war provoked by the Russian invasion of his country.

The allies are still looking for a common line on the security guarantees they are willing to provide to Kyiv, as well as on the invitation addressed to Ukraine to join NATO.

At the summit in Vilnius, NATO wants to organize the first meeting of the new Ukraine-NATO Council with Volodymyr Zelensky, even if Ukraine does not immediately join the Alliance.

Emmanuel Macron also mentioned the “situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP” occupied by “Russian troops”, and his Ukrainian colleague was concerned about “dangerous provocations” by Moscow.

The heads of the two states assessed the military situation in Ukraine, as well as France’s military aid, Elisey reports.
