German justice sentenced an Eritrean man who attacked two schoolgirls at a school in the southern city of Illerkirchberg, fatally injuring one of them, to life imprisonment, Reuters reports.
The 27-year-old defendant was found guilty of murder and attempted murder.
Last year’s knife attack in the small town of 5,000 west of Munich shocked the German public after a 14-year-old girl was killed and another, 13, was injured.
German prosecutors say the man took the knife to himself on December 5 with the intention of forcing local authorities to issue him an identity card.
After leaving the house that morning, the man at some point moved the gun from his backpack to one of his pockets. According to the magistrate’s indictment, he decided to attack the girls after he thought the girls might have seen him do it.
The man was arrested shortly after the attack.
