
Max Verstappen starts from the first position in the sprint race of the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix on the Spielberg circuit.
Lewis Hamilton, 18th in qualifying for Spielberg’s sprint race
The reigning world champion won qualifying (1.04.440) so he will be on pole for Saturday’s 100km race.
Sergio Perez (RedBull) took second place, Lando Norris (McLaren) took third place.
Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) was fourth, followed by Ferrari (Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc) and Aston Martin (Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll).
Lewis Hamilton finished the first part of qualifying in 18th place, while George Russell (his Mercedes teammate) complained of problems and was only 15th.
Know:
- A sprint race will be held on Saturday from 17:30. The eight best participants will receive points.
- Max Verstappen (RedBull) will also start from pole position for Sunday’s race in Spielberg, after the Dutchman won Friday’s qualifying.
