According to the official Blue Flag website, there are 6 beaches in Romania awarded the Blue Flag title in 2023: Citadel Beach; Azure Beach; Vega Vintage Beach – Mamaia; Phenicia beach; Marina Regia Beach, “Phoenicia Blue View” by Olimp.
The qualification awarded by the World Foundation for Environmental Education offers tourists a guarantee that the water and sand in these places are clean and that there are enough lifeguards ready to intervene in risky situations, writes Airlinestravel.ro
“To receive a blue flag, beach administrators must meet 33 criteria. Among other things, they are required to have specially equipped places for water sports and entrances for people with disabilities. Tourists should also be given informational materials on keeping clean and protecting the environment,” the site also writes.
Romanian beaches with the title “Blue Flag” in 2023
- Marina Regia beach is located in Nevodar – a quality beach with fine sand with lifeguards and numerous accommodation facilities, a spa and a restaurant at the Marina Regia Hotel. The beach is located near the city of Nevodari and the municipality of Constanta.
- Phenicia Beach is located near the tourist complex Phoenica Holiday Resort. Lifeguards work here, it is famous for its games on fine sand, beaches and water sports.
- Vintage Vega Beach – Since 2007, Mamaia has the title “Blue Flag”. The beach is located near the famous Vega Hotel, in the center of the Mamaia resort. The beach has fine sand and has lifeguard stations. There is no shortage of beach games and water sports.

How many Blue Flag beaches are there in Bulgaria, Greece or Turkey
Bulgaria has a longer coastline than Romania (about 378 km), with resorts and beaches all along the coast.
So, according to the official website of the Blue Flag, Bulgaria has at least 21 beaches with the title “Blue Flag”, as well as a tourist port with this distinction.
Greece, on the other hand, ranks second all-time, with no less than 617 beaches and 18 Blue Flag tourist ports.
Turkey is in third place with 551 beaches and 23 Blue Flag marinas.
In the first place in this ranking we find Spain with 629 beaches and 97 tourist ports that have received the distinction of “Blue Flag”.
