EU leaders deadlocked over new Brussels migration deal
EU leaders interrupted an hour-long debate over a declaration on migration on Thursday night after Hungary and Poland blocked the declaration taking stock of a recent migration deal.
Migration has been a strong point of contention across the bloc for years. Countries such as Italy and Greece argue that they bear the brunt of receiving most of the migrants arriving across the Mediterranean in flimsy boats.
The recent deal stipulates that bloc members must share the number of refugees arriving in the bloc or pay compensation.
Both Poland and Hungary were outvoted earlier this month when the bloc agreed to the deal.
Debate on the declaration is expected to resume on Friday, during the second day of the summit in Brussels.
