The mayor of the capital Nikušor Dan said on Tuesday on Prima News that the environmental committee of the Chamber of Deputies adopted amendments according to which there should no longer be private green spaces in Bucharest and Romania, because they oblige the municipality to give money for the expropriation of private lands with green spaces or to oblige them to issue construction permits. We are talking about 4 or 5 billion euros, for expropriation, money that we will never have, the mayor also said, quoted by News.ro.
The mayor of the capital said that their project, which had been lying in the drawers of the parliament since 2021, after being initiated in 2018, was suddenly put on the agenda of the environmental commission with a number of amendments, without representatives of the authorities. The Ministry of Development and the Ministry of Natural Resources are also coming to the debate.
“A discussion has started on some amendments that no one knew about and which, in fact, say that there should no longer be private green spaces in Bucharest and in the settlements of Romania. I mean, to this day we have environmental legislation that says if you own a private green space, you have an obligation to maintain it as a green space.
Basically, as it was proposed today at the committee, and tomorrow it will be at the plenary session, it says that after 12 months, the local authorities will either alienate all these green areas, or they will lose the status of green areas,” explained the mayor of the capital. changes made to the project in the environmental committee of the Chamber of Deputies.
Nicosor Dan also said that in order to expropriate private green spaces in Bucharest, it would mean that the local authorities would have to give somewhere around 4-5 billion euros, money that they will never have.
“We’re talking about a lot of people who have either agreed to stand down, they’ve bought legal rights knowing they’re greenfields, they’ve bought and after we’ve passed a law that says you can’t build on greenfields, now they’ve found these gates are in the parliament, which says: “either you expropriate them, or you give them the right to build,” said Nikusor Dan.
The mayor of the capital showed that the real estate sharks are undeniably behind these amendments, because they are official documents that they proposed over time and that he saw in the Urban Development Code and now in the amendments adopted by the PSD.
“Today there was a vote in the environmental commission, there was a majority of the PNL-PSD that voted for them, and tomorrow they will go to the plenary session,” Nikushor Dan said.
“Some owners bought 5,000 square meters in the Modrogan yard, in the PNL yard, others bought court rights for about 7,000 square meters in Kiseleff, others about 10 hectares in Tineretului Park, Herăstrău, Circus Park, each of these people, if the City Hall does not buy them after 12 months, they will come to the city hall and ask for permission to build, because the city hall did not use its right to expropriate,” emphasized Nikushor Dan, showing that this is an essential element, especially since “they knew at that time what they bought this land because it is a green zone,” reports News.ro.
