It will be built in Galata mega-plant worth 1.4 billion euroso for batteries designed for electric vehicles, and the investment is special for several reasons. Enabled company website The Belgian ABEE writes that the number of employees is “over 20” and the chosen area, Galác, has not really attracted much investment. In addition, the company does not yet have sites for the production of batteries.
If this giant factory is indeed built, it will be our largest investment from the ground up in the automotive industry. Hungary is the country in the region that has attracted the most investments in electric vehicles. ABEE stands for Avesta Battery & Energy Engineering.
The announcement of the investment was made on Tuesday in the presence of the Belgian Prime Minister, and the Belgian press through L’Echo writes that the megafactory in Galata will have 1,800-2,000 employees. If the factory does become a reality, production will not begin until 2026.
It is interesting that if in general large investments are announced by multinational corporations that already have tens of thousands of employees and billions in revenues, this time we are talking about what the Belgian press calls a “startup”, a small company that does NOT yet have production, only research.
The Belgian press writes that ABEE will finance the investment with the help of international banks and with the help of funds from the Romanian government (state aid).
ABEE was founded in 2019 by a teacher named Noshin Omar and had promised two sites, in Belgium and North Macedonia, before the announcement, which now referred to Romania. The staff section of the website states that more than 20 (20+) are researching all aspects of EV batteries, from lifespan to recycling.
At its inception, ABEE was an engineering consulting company with five employees.
In the “projects under development” section, the value “25+” is entered, and in “one./year” – 10,000.
The Belgian press is wondering if the announcement related to the mega-investment in Romania does not “sabotage” the investment in the plant in Belgium, an investment announced in 2022 for the city of Seneffe-Manage. This plant should be operational in 2025 and will employ 300 to 500 people.
In March, ABEE also announced a €40 million investment in a small production site in the Kičevo region of North Macedonia.
