Inductive charging for electric cars is in full development: many projects are being tested on this topic, with special roads that allow you to charge the car while driving, or even parking spaces equipped with charging plates by induction that allow you to charge the car without even thinking about it .
The principle is the same as and induction chargers for the smartphones we already find in our cars. If Tesla doesn’t yet offer this technology to recharge the batteries of its electric cars, things could change soon.
Tesla: A company specializing in wireless charging
Indeed, according to the latest rumors, Tesla is in talks to buy a German company specializing in inductive wireless charging technology for robotics and industrial applications.
baptized Wiferion, this company is located in the Freiburg im Breisgau region of Germany, close to the French border, just a few kilometers from Colmar in Alsace. The company operates in Europe as well as in the United States.
According to our German colleagues from Business Insider, Tesla is going to buy Wiferionthrough its European subsidiary, Tesla International BV, located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Tesla: a future takeover?
According to the document that the German firm submitted to the local commercial register, we learn about it “The shareholders intend to sell their shares to Tesla International BV by means of a purchase agreement”.
Even if Elon Musk’s company did not officially confirm this information, the Tesla boss recently released images of wireless induction charging that will power a Tesla parked in a garage, proving the brand’s teams are working on the feature. The technology developed by Wiferion could also be useful for Tesla to power the robots used in its factories.
Pending an official announcement on this topic, the American electric car manufacturer has generated a lot of talk in recent days, as many American manufacturers are in the process of adopting the NACS standard (North American charging standard) and a “Tesla connector” such as Ford or General Motors. The NACS standard could very well replace the Combo CCS standard in the future, which is used by most electric vehicles today.
