Delegates were in London on Wednesday for a donors’ conference to help Ukraine repair damage caused by Russia’s war of aggression.
The scale of the devastation is enormous, with some experts saying Ukraine needs the equivalent of the Marshall Plan that helped rebuild Europe after World War II.
What’s happening at the conference?
The 2023 Ukraine Recovery International Conference, which is the second to be held since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, is being hosted by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Sunak, who will open the conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy – who is expected to appear remotely – is expected to call for investment to build “a financially stronger and technologically advanced Ukraine”.
More than 1,000 representatives from 61 countries, including private investors, are in attendance.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is among those expected to attend, as are European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
