On Monday, the Constitutional Court recognized the party of fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor as unconstitutional. The decision was made after the government filed an appeal with the High Court to outlaw the ŞOR party, desdechi.md reports.
The sessions of the Constitutional Court began on May 10 and lasted more than a month. During this period, the parties were invited to present their arguments, motions and closing arguments.
Government representatives motivated their request to recognize the party as an outlaw with such arguments as the fact that representatives of the SOR party bribed voters and protesters, were connected to the Kremlin, and repeatedly violated the legislation regarding the party’s financial activities.
The ȘOR party is the legal successor of the Ravnopravie formation, which was led by businessman Ilan Shor. In 2015, Ilan Shor won the local elections and became the mayor of Orhei. In 2016, Ilan Shor was elected president of the Ravnopravie party, which was previously headed by politician Valery Klymenko, an ardent supporter of the Russian Federation. Four months later, the organization changed its name to the SHO Political Party.
In the parliamentary elections of 2019 and 2021, ȚOR became a parliamentary party, currently has 5 MPs Petra Jardan, Marina Tauber, Regina Apostolova, Denys Ulanov and Vadym Fotescu.
The president of the formation, Ilan Shor, was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the “Bank Fraud” case, but escaped by fleeing to Israel, where he is still living, desdechi.md writes.
