Since Lamborghini is an integral part of the Volkswagen concern, it is logical that there are several synergies between certain products. We think, for example, of the Lamborghini Urus, which shares several elements with the Audi RS Q8, or the Huracan, which is similar to the Audi R8.
This strategy is nothing new as it provides significant economies of scale and minimizes investment. On the last two supercars, namely the Gallardo, the Huracan and the last two generations of the R8, Lamborghini and Audi worked hand in hand. But as you may know, Audi will not offer a third generation R8 for obvious pollution standards reasons, and you’d think that would affect the Huracan replacement.
Lamborghini makes a lot of money
But it’s nothing. Indeed, in an interview with the Australian magazine Drive, Francesco Scardaoni, director of the Asia-Pacific region of Bull, said that the Huracan replacement will be entirely produced by Lamborghini. For what ? Simply because the brand has made so much money in recent years that it can develop this new supercar on its own.
2022 was the best year in the history of the brand with a turnover of 2.38 billion euros and an operating margin of 25.9%. Operating income was 614 million euros, and Lamborghini delivered 9,233 cars worldwide, including 5,367 Urus.
A hybrid supercar is on the way
With no future Audi R8, Lamborghini will have the freedom to design the Huracan replacement as it sees fit and without compromise. The car will be based on a platform specially developed for it, even if Francesco Scardaoni did not rule out that it could be used for other models of the Volkswagen concern.
We don’t know much about the Huracan replacement yet, except that it will no longer be eligible for the naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10but probably the group’s famous 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a hybrid system.
One of the few details confirmed by Lamborghini today is that it will have the same eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as the Revuelto. The report also states that the turbochargers won’t kick in until 7,000rpm, while the electric motor will be sandwiched between the V8 and the dual-clutch gearbox. What promises a small atmospheric temperament of the engine at low revolutions. The answer is in 2024.
