The authorities of Kosovo have canceled the border ban imposed three days ago on vehicles and goods from Serbia, writes the DPA agency with reference to the Serbian state television RTS.

Tensions between Serbia and Kosovo have been building for months. Almost every day in the north of Kosovo, populated almost exclusively by Serbs, there are clashes or acts of violence against officials and journalists.

Trucks and cars from Serbia will be subject to increased checks by Kosovo border guards, but they will be allowed to pass, the television reported.

The government in Pristina ordered the border closed to Serbian goods and vehicles on Wednesday after Serbia arrested three police officers from Kosovo. According to the Pristina authorities, they were kidnapped from Kosovo. Belgrade claims they entered Serbia.

The NATO-led security force KFOR said Friday night in Pristina that after investigating the incident, they could not determine whether the three policemen were captured on Kosovo or Serbian territory. She reminded both sides that they should coordinate with KFOR the actions of their security forces in the border area. In this case, this did not happen, KFOR said.

KFOR has had overall responsibility for security in Kosovo since 1999.

Kosovo, now populated almost exclusively by Albanians, declared its independence in 2008. Serbia does not recognize this and demands the return of its former province, adds the German news agency. (Source: Agerpres)
