Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Polishchuk presented Trudeau with a suitcase with fragments of a rocket that fell in Odessa.
A group of Ukrainian servicemen trained in Canada spoke with the Prime Minister of Canada. “To meet the prime minister is a great honor,” said one of them, Colonel Piotr Ostapchuk. “We had the opportunity to thank him personally,” Polishchuk said.

Canada, home to a large Ukrainian diaspora, is one of Kyiv’s top supporters, having provided significant military assistance and trained more than 36,000 Ukrainian soldiers. Ottawa has also imposed sanctions against Russia.
Trudeau’s visit came as Moscow reported large-scale attacks by Ukrainian troops on Russian military positions in southern and eastern Ukraine. These attacks may be part of a major counter-offensive that Kyiv has been announcing for months. During the night, Russian missiles and drones also hit targets outside the capital, as well as in Odessa, the Poltava region and Kharkiv.
