Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigns as MP due to Partygate investigation.

“It is with great sadness that I leave Parliament – ​​at least for now,” Johnson said in a statement. “This forces me to fire a small group of people without any evidence to support their demands and without the approval of even members of the Conservative Party, let alone the wider electorate.” Johnson added, “I didn’t lie, and I think the committee knows that at heart.”

Earlier today, a list of people was released that Johnson, as a former prime minister, proposed to confer honors, titles of nobility or seats in the House of Lords. This list is compiled by former prime ministers and is reviewed by a government committee and Downing Street.

The list includes his allies in the Brexit campaign, former government colleagues, a hairdresser, but not his father, Stanley Johnson. The Times reported in March that Boris Johnson would be asking for a knighthood for his father, but his name was not on the list. But there are former home secretary Priti Patel (she takes the title “lady”) and Eurosceptic MP Jacob Rees-Mogg (she becomes “sir”).

Also included in the list of recommended advisers, speechwriters and personal assistants is the name of Kelly Dodge, Barber in Parliament.

The House of Lords, whose members are not elected but appointed, has been joined by Sean Bailey, a former London mayoral candidate who has been accused of breaking rules during the pandemic. In contrast, despite speculation, Nadine Dorris, Johnson’s former culture secretary, and Alok Sharma, president of COP26, the United Nations climate change summit, are receiving no remuneration in 2021. If they were appointed to the House of Lords, they would have to retire to resign from the post of deputy and call elections in their constituencies.

Johnson, who was forced to step down as prime minister last July amid revelations of Downing Street partying during the pandemic, has been fined for the affair.

London police said they were “investigating” information given to them by the Home Office on 19 May regarding a “possible” breach of Covid-19 rules at Downing Street between June 2020 and May 2021. According to The Times, Thames Valley police have also been briefed on events taking place at Checkers, the British prime minister’s country home.

Johnson’s spokesman spoke of “an apparent attempt to construct a politically motivated case from scratch,” stressing that lawyers for the former prime minister had told the Ministry of Coordination and a parliamentary committee investigating the same issue that the events in question were legitimate.

Boris Johnson is under investigation by the House of Commons, which will be asked to decide whether the former Prime Minister lied to Parliament when he repeatedly said that all measures were being followed at Downing Street during the pandemic.

On March 22, he testified for more than three hours before a parliamentary committee considering the case, which could even cost him a seat in parliament.

He insists that he did not lie to Parliament.
