This name and concept car seem to be already well known to us at Porsche, and for good reason. Indeed, a few years ago, the Stuttgart firm presented a kind of “secret collection” with many concept cars that were not presented to the public. The connection with one of these concepts is quite obvious: 919 st developed in 2017, but presented to the public at the Munich Motor Show in 2021.
We already know the term “Mission” well, as it characterizes the future-oriented (electric) models of the brand. The suffix “X” seems to indicate that this is a rather special project, as if this concept was a prototype of the successor to the famous Porsche 918.
And the manufacturer already announced this a few years ago: as for the previous supercars (918, Carrera GT and 959), the next one will represent major technical changes and not just a “simple” evolution of the previous one.
From the track to the road
In the case of the Mission X concept car, it is truly a “revolution” because this model is 100% electric. Described as a “conceptual study”Mission X redefines the concept of a road-going hypercar, drawing inspiration from the world of racing, particularly Endurance, where hypercars have taken the reins of the discipline.
The Mission X is another indicator of what the future of Porsche could be. The brand claims that this hypercar will offer an amazing power-to-weight ratio of at least one horsepower per kilogram. The dimensions are quite capacious: length 4.50 meters and height 1.20 meters.
If we take Porsche’s latest supercar, the 2015 918 Spyder, as a benchmark, we can imagine around 1,700 horsepower. That would be nearly double the 918 when it became the first production car to lap the Nürburgring in less than seven minutes.
Again, this is just a guess as we don’t yet know the weight, but that level of power would make it the most powerful road-going Porschewith far more horses than the 919 Hybrid Evo itself, the absolute record holder at the Nürburgring.
The next revolution in electric and sports cars?
At the 75th, Porsche presented the Mission X conceptthousand anniversary of the brand and on the eve of the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The styling of the Mission X is also inspired by Le Mans, with doors that open upwards and forwards like the famous 917.
The cabin is also impressive, with contrasting color driver and passenger seats and six-point seat belts.
The concept has a rather specific configuration, as the batteries are normally placed under the floor. For this model Porsche decided to install them behind the seats to place most of the mass in the center of the car. The Stuttgart firm also reports 900 V architecture to halve the charging time compared to the Taycan Turbo S.
