University of Athens: Gerasimos Siassos becomes new rector

Its internal members reached an agreement today Athens University for the new board of the rector of the institution.

It was decided that the new rector should be Gerasimos Siassos from the Faculty of Medicine and three vice-rectors, as well as the executive director of the institution from the team of Professor of Analytical Chemistry Nikos Tomadis.

In particular, after the election of six internal council members in early April, two groups of university students were formed. The team of Mr. Siasos and the team of Mr. Tomaydis, who were candidates for the post of rector. Since neither group had a majority, they began consultations to reach an agreement and prevent the institution from moving on to new elections. Intensive consultations followed at the University of Athens, as well as within the political institutions and parties.

Today, after a long meeting of the Six, a new composition of the Rector’s Council was determined. There were 31 nominations for the five external members of the council (famous personalities). It was decided, according to information from “K”, to select one proposed by Mr. Siassos, three proposed by Mr. Tomadis, and one proposed by Spyros Vlahopoulos, Professor of Law.
